Jin Kobayashi, the founder of Arbor Japan, is one of the few accomplished arborists in Japan. After the graduation of a Japanese University specializing in Landscaping and Designing Garden, Jin started his career at a landscaping company in the U.S., returned to his home country two years later, and then he got many work experience as a landscaperin many places in Japan.

After setting up a landscape contracting company in Nara, Japan, his interest in the arboriculture was growing up, and naturally Jin decided to go to the United Kingdom to learn both the unique culture and advanced techniques.

In training programs at world's primary arboretums; Harcourt arboretum and the National Arboretum, Westonbirt, run by the University of Oxford, U.K, plus the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in U.K., he faced a steep learning curve but learned a lot from some notable arborists, and finally he acquired profound knowledge and practical experience.

In Japan gardeners have generally covered a wide range of works in the landscaping industry, however, pruning tall trees are basically excluded from their job lists because of the height and safety problems. If branches and twigs are needed to be trimmed, it can be necessary to ask workers in the forestry industry to handle it, but troubles still exist: tree species they fell are quite different from those which can be seen in typical gardens, and their ways to cut branches without rope-climbing proficiency put limitations on their trimming techniques as well.

Therefore, arborists, the specialists in trimming tall trees with safety and proper ways, are now considered to be an integral part of the landscape gardening, getting a lot of attention in Japan.

Given the fact that many tall trees, growing in the precincts of most Japanese temples and shrines, are regarded as sacred, precious objects in which deities are enshrined, Arbor Japan, a company of skilled arborists, has begun its business for helping those holly trees, especially in Kyoto and Nara, to keep them healthy and now expanding its work field to mountainous forests and public parks in urban cities.

In addition, Arbor Japan can provide information about collecting seeds native to Japan, for international visitors who are interested in Japanese arboriculture, and sometimes showing them around Botanic Gardens in Japan with professional knowledge.

Jin believes that he will visit world’s top-notch Arboretums in every time an opportunity comes to him and get wide experience as a proficient arborist.
